What actions trigger the cooldown period?


The Answer

Actions that DO trigger cooldown:

  1. Catching any wild Pokemon (including those from Incense, Lures & Mystery Box Meltan Boxes).
  2. Accidentally dropping a Pokeball Pokeball on the catch screen.
  3. Feeding a berry to a wild Pokemon or raid boss.
  4. Spinning a PokeStop PokeStop (even if bag is full or at spin limit).
  5. Placing a defender Pokemon in a Gym Gym.
  6. Healing a Gym Gym defender with a berry (only if you are near the Gym Gym).
  7. Battling the defenders of a Gym Gym.
  8. Having a Pokemon flee from you.
  9. Using a Gotcha or Pokeball Pokeball Plus spin PokeStop PokeStops or catch Pokemon for you.

If you are on cooldown: Performing any of the above actions will reset the cooldown timer. If you are away from where you are on cooldown at, it WILL also result in a softban!

Actions that DO NOT trigger cooldown:

  1. Teleporting to a new location.
  2. Encountering a wild Pokemon.
  3. Healing a Gym Gym defender with a berry (only if you are far away from the Gym Gym).
  4. Obtaining your free Raid Pass Raid Pass by clicking on a Gym Gym (do not spin it).
  5. Autowalking (no catching or spinning).
  6. Hatching Eggs Eggs.
  7. Claiming quest and weekly rewards.
  8. Catching a reward Pokemon from quests.
  9. Speed raiding.
  10. Sending and opening Gifts.
  11. Using items on Pokemon (potions, revives, TMs, evolution items).
  12. Unlocking secondary moves on a Pokemon.
  13. Evolving a Pokemon.
  14. Powering-up a Pokemon.
  15. Transferring a Pokemon (deleting it).
  16. Transferring a Pokemon to your Nintendo Switch.
  17. Trading a Pokemon.
  18. Taking pictures of Pokemon.
  19. Changing your Buddy Pokemon.
  20. Gaining Buddy candies from walking.
  21. Using an Incense, Lucky Egg or Starpiece.
  22. Deleting items from your bag.
  23. Player-vs-Player (PvP) battles.
  24. Team leader training (battling Blanche, Candela or Spark).
  25. Placing a Lure or Special Lure on a PokeStop PokeStop.
  26. Purchasing Pokecoins and items from the shop.
  27. Changing your avatar's appearance.
  28. Encountering and catching photobombing Pokemon (Smeargle Smeargle, Party Hat Pikachu Pikachu, etc).
